Avalanche! A mass of snow and debris plummets down the steep mountain face engulfing everything in its path. The cameraman is lucky however and continues shooting, out of harms way. Avalanche control, skier triggered avalanches, natural slab fractures and powder avalanches, we have shot it all.
An avalanche occurs when the weight of newly fallen snow exceed the holding strength of the snowpack. The snow surface fractures and loose snow is released down the slope, carrying snow as well as rock and debris down the mountain, potentially destroying everything in its path. Avalanche is one of the most serious threats and dangers faced in the mountains while skiing, mountaineering, and traversing through the backcountry. Types of avalanches include snow, ice, rock and earth avalanches. Snow avalanches include slab, powder, wet snow, point release, human triggered, and others types of avalanches.
